ACC Ukraine – Compliance Club Meeting
On February 25, 2020, the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine (“ACC“) held a Compliance Club Meeting in Kyiv, Ukraine.
One of the panels was moderated by Tetiana Kyryk, Co-Chair of the Chamber Compliance Club and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer at Kyivstar (part of the VEON Group, formerly VimpelCom). The panel was composed of Oleksandr Komarov (ACC’s Board of Directors Member and CEO of Kyivstar), Alison Howell (Ethics & Compliance Officer, VEON) and our partner Julia Kahlenberg.
After a short description of the VimpelCom US FCPA case, the three of them discussed about the purpose of appointing an Independent Compliance Monitor, the selection and nomination procedure as well as a Monitor’s role. Julia Kahlenberg also provided insights about challenges during the several stages, elaborated on chances and advantages and shared her experiences on the successful completion of the Compliance Monitorship of VEON including the certification of the company’s ethics and compliance program by the Independent Compliance Monitor, our partner Dr. Andreas Pohlmann.
