This week’s live event: From rules to resilience – Do we manage risks or regulation?

Do banks manage risks better today—or have they primarily become better at meeting regulatory requirements? We explored this question during a panel discussion on compliance and governance together with Klaus Moosmayer, member of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bank AG, and Veerle De Vuyst, Head of Division DG Universal & Diversified Institutions at the Europäische Zentralbank. The discussion was moderated by Carolin Amann of FTI Consulting and Nicole Willms of Pohlmann & Company.

A central theme of the discussion was that the true effectiveness of governance and compliance becomes particularly evident in situations where decisions are ambiguous and where different interests, risks, and requirements must be weighed against one another.

In such situations, mere compliance with regulatory requirements is not enough. Rather, what is crucial is a risk culture that is actively practiced, as well as a principles-based approach to governance and compliance that provides guidance even in complex decision-making situations.

We would like to thank our panelists for their valuable insights and the stimulating discussion, the FTI team for their excellent organization, and all our guests for the open exchange and the in-depth conversations that followed.
